Birth and transformation of the association
It all started in December 2008 with a music group.
With a few friends, we have had the desire for some time to form an association to help musicians in our region.
Being all musicians, the idea of help is close to our hearts, we formed on December 12, 2008 the association "FingerStyle".
The basic idea was to be able to help musicians, train young people and children to learn an instrument as well as offer free concerts for audiences in our region and perhaps further afield.
For several years we have functioned in this way, with bi-monthly and then weekly meetings, offering concerts and “jam’s” “work classes” to musicians and the public.
As the years went by, we helped various charities, we performed for free to support these works and the goals of our association were changing and moving more and more in the field of aid.
Being a Christian and not hiding it, I wanted to work according to the will of God.
Other associations, specifically dedicated to music, were born, founded by various former members wishing to focus solely in the musical field.
Little by little, for our part, we have oriented ourselves more and more towards works of aid and mutual aid and less and less in the purely musical field.
The small nucleus that remained with the only remaining founder of the association, your servant, shared the same convictions, the same values, the same faith and the same desire:
Helping those most in need and mainly children.
In order to study the various fields of action in which we could act, the association voluntarily went to sleep for about 18 months for a period of reflection and feasibility study.
After this time of reflection, various help, spiritual support, faith and common desires we decided to focus in the field of help, more particularly of helping children and the most deprived in the Dominican Republic. , in the Caribbean, thus doing what our faith urges us to do for it is written:
"Now because of the unfortunate people crushed by injustice and the poor who cry, I will act, I will help those who are despised" Psalm 12: 6
The focus of this aid is aimed at the Dominican Republic because we know this country well and more particularly the region of San Pedro de Macoris where we have people of trust.
Indeed, my wife is of Dominican origin, we know how this country works, we know the needs of the most disadvantaged, we go there frequently and apart from our family, we have serious privileged contacts already working in this field.
The way was therefore cleared and we mobilized to test, know, define the needs, the involvement, the motivation and the seriousness of the partners on site.
Now is the time for the Havilah FingerStyle Association to take one more step, to act and to put into practice the second part of Psalm 12: 6:
"... I will act, I will help the one who is despised", and to make themselves known and recognized.
Now that the structure has been set up and verified, we are making our “public showcase” by launching our various communication tools, including multimedia.
Supported and motivated by a community that believes in us and in our projects we already have various supports such as churches, companies, businesses and individuals who have expressed the desire to help us achieve our goals, we thank them for it. and bless them for their seeds in this wonderful project.
